Hitherto almost exclusively known as a motoring itinerary, a new waymarked route makes it suitable for cycling or trekking. Running from Fussen to Wurzberg, the route can be done north/south or south/north, and takes 2 weeks as a cycle route, 3 weeks as a walking route. Best any time from April to October; July and August can be busy. Not to be missed: Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein castles, crossing Germany's great rivers (the Lech and Danube), pre-alp landscapes, & Germany's ancient city-states
